I am a speech-language pathologist who has been practicing for over 30 years. I work in my private practice primarily with traditional and home school children who struggle in language arts, primarily in reading and writing. I specialize in working with children with dyslexia and dysgraphia, but over the years, I have accumulated a lot of ideas and strategies for non-struggling learners, as well.
In this blog, I will be addressing ways to teach reading and writing to children, using ideas to help them improve their underlying language skills. I will apply these ideas to helping children improve their schoolwork in language arts. I am particularly interested in writing, including handwriting, spelling, composition and creative expression.
I am the creator of a home school program called The Wand, which is a spelling, grammar and writing program for young readers. You can check that out at Bravewriter.com.
I believe it is important for parents to know what the research says about different methods of learning, so I hope to be a resource that is both enlightening and encouraging. You can follow me on my website www.rootedinlanguage.com and on my Facebook page (Rooted in Language)!
